The Five P’s for Stability in Your Career and Your Peace of Mind

During the daily battles we all face in our pursuits for the prize we often lose sight of the reasons that we do, what it is we do. It has been said that some of us are so close to the forest that we don’t even see the tree, rather a knot hole that is right in front of our eyes. The remedy is to stop for a moment and take a deep breath and reflect on what I would like to coin the Big Five P’s. There are millions of people throughout the world that have no job. Sales people have a rare form of employment that the Japanese culture used to honor:

Lifetime Employment

When you master the art and science of selling then you will always be employed.

Let’s review this new strategy for your tranquility. The first P is Professionalism. No matter what industry you are currently employed in you have the responsibility to be the very best you can be in all your undertakings. Professionalism means that you have made a commitment to an industry and company, and you have developed an understanding of the whys behinds the what’s. You have learned to translate features into client’s benefits. It is never the job that defines you; rather, it is your attitude concerning the job that shines the magnificent light on the value of it.

The next P stands for Purpose. Everyone needs a reason to get out of bed. Your purpose is directly tied to your mission statement. This initial part of the plan will keep you inspired throughout your career as you navigate the peaks and the valleys of goal attainment.

This process is followed by the next P which is People. Do you realize that you spend more time with your colleagues than your family during the week? That is why you need to develop strong and ethical relationships with them. With these relationships, you can tap in on the reservoir of encouragement. There is nothing better for the spirit of an exhausted person than to have someone nurture them with peaceful words that sooth them.

The next P would be Power, and that can be defined as the organized use of knowledge. Knowledge is useless until it is organized into a game plan that can be executed to its completion. That is the very essence of power.

The next P would be Passion that is defined as your personal fuel to continue your mission and to stay the course. No one is going to be more enthralled about your product than you are, so you have to radiate that belief to everyone that you are attempting to persuade. Your passion splashes into your family, relationships and into every facet of your life.

The next time you are tempted to quit your company or leave the industry you need to extend your hand in front of your face and spread out your fingers labeling each finger with your new strategy. Tell yourself that you are a professional filled with passion and joined by supportive people and that you are empowered with purpose to accomplish your goals by your own personal power. Remember you cannot beat a person that refuses to be beaten.
